Who is Dakshinamoorthy?
Dakshinamoorthy is worshipped as a god of wisdom, and he is considered a Guru who blesses with all types of knowledge.
The God who is facing the South Direction is named Dakshinamurthy. We can see him in all of Lord Shiva Temple at the circumambulatory path around the sanctum sanctorum.
Dakshinamoorthy is one of the forms of Lord Shiva, he is depicted seated under a banyan tree facing towards the south direction. He is seated with his right foot on the mythical apasmara (who ignores spiritualism). He is surrounded by sages who are receiving instruction from Dakshinamoorthy. Dakshinamoorthy is portrayed as a powerful form brimming with ever-flowing bliss and supreme joy while being in the yogic state of abstract meditation.
Significance of Dakshinamoorthy or Dakshinamurthy
Lord Dakshinamurthy is considered to be the First Guru, He has several names like Adhi Yogi and Adhi Nath. He is also depicted in various forms.

Vyakhyanamoorthy – The Teacher who is the source of all knowledge.
Dakshinamoorthy, who faces the South and imparts the Knowledge of the Self, which is denoted by his hands being in Chinmudra, represents immortality.
Not many temples are dedicated to Dakshinamoorthy, but he remains an important form of Lord Shiva. Invoking him is akin to paying obeisance to knowledge, and wisdom and perceiving the path of true enlightenment.
