Who is Dakshinamurthy?
Dakshinamurthy is worshipped as a god of wisdom and he is considered a Guru who blesses with all types of knowledge.
The God who is facing the South Direction is named Dakshinamurthy. We can see him in all of Lord Shiva Temple at the circumambulatory path around the sanctum sanctorum.
Dakshinamurthy is one of the forms of Lord Shiva, he is depicted seated under a banyan tree facing towards the south direction. He is seated with his right foot on mythical apasmara (who ignores spiritualism). He is surrounded by sages who are receiving instruction from Dakshinamurthy. Dakshinamurthy is portrayed as a powerful form brimming with ever-flowing bliss and supreme joy while being in the yogic state of abstract meditation.
Significance of Dakshinamurthy
Lord Dakshinamurthy is considered to be the First Guru, He has several names like Adhi Yogi and Adhi Nath. He is also depicted in various forms.
